Employer Sponsored Visa is the key for skilled people having skills in particular occupations to work and live in Australia if sponsored by an Australian business. Also an employer in need of skilled workers can sponsor prospective people to work in Australia if the occupation is in the SOL, CSOL list.

Employer sponsored visas are categorized into three different subclasses.


Temporary Work (Skilled) Visa - Subclass 457

This Visa allows the applicant to travel Australia to work in their nominated occupation for their sponsor/employer in Australia upto 4 years. This visa is also for people already in Australia and wishing to have working rights.

Requirements:

  • You need to have an approved sponsor in Australia
  • You must meet the required skills needed to fill a position that is nominated by Australian business.

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) - Subclass 186

This visa allows the skilled occupant to get Permanent Residency in Australia. It requires the skilled worker to work in Australia under one the following three streams:

  • Temporary Residence Transition Stream
    • This visa is for 457 visa hulders who have worked for two years in the same occupation and the employer wishes to offer you a permanent position
  • Direct Entry Stream
    • For people who have been nominated by employer under Direct Entry stream
    • For people who have never or worked in Australia for a short period.
    • For people on a TR visa and do not qualify for Temporary Transition Residence Scheme.
  • Agreement Stream 
    • For people sponsored by an employer through a labour agreement

This visa is a permanent residence visa. You can ​be in or outside Australia when you apply. If you are in Australia, you must hold a substantive visa or a bridging visa A, B or C.

Requirements

  • Have been nominated by an approved Australian employer
  • Are younger than 50 years of age, unless you are exempt
  • Meet the skills, qualifications and English language requirements, unless you are exempt
  • Apply under the stream for which you were nominated.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Visa- Subclass 187

This visa allows the skilled occupant to get Permanent Residency and work in regional Australia. It requires the skilled worker to work in Australia under one the following three streams:

  • Temporary Residence Transition Stream
    • This visa is for 457 visa hulders who have worked for two years in the same occupation and the employer wishes to offer you a permanent position
  • Direct Entry Stream
    • For people who have been nominated by employer under Direct Entry stream
    • For people who have never or worked in Australia for a short period.
    • For people on a TR visa and do not qualify for Temporary Transition Residence Scheme.
  • Agreement Stream 
    • For people sponsored by an employer through a labour agreement

  • Apply under the stream for which you were nominated.
